After vocational college: what Australian institutions may recognise

A vocational college qualification may support admission or an application for recognition of prior learning. Options include a Diploma, Advanced Diploma or bachelor degree, with credit where approved or entry from the first year.

The university assesses the qualification’s level and content. A Russian vocational qualification cannot automatically be assigned AQF level 5–6 or treated as a ticket to second-year entry. The decision depends on your documents and chosen course. Victoria University — entry requirements.

Prepare your qualification and transcript, subject outlines, details of study hours and placements, passport and the required English evidence. Check the visa documents separately: these generally include a CoE for each course, OSHC, financial information and GS responses. Home Affairs.

Calculate savings after receiving a written credit decision and a revised study plan. Fewer units do not always shorten a course by a full year: timetabling and subject sequences matter.

As one example, VU’s Bachelor of Business costs A$18,400 per semester in 2026 and A$19,500 in 2027. This is the fee for a specific bachelor degree, not an average across courses.

The standard base visa application charge is A$2,500 from 1 July 2026. A subsequent temporary application charge depends on visa history; being in Australia does not, by itself, make it payable. Budget separately for living costs, insurance, travel and any assessment fee for prior learning.

Ask for written confirmation of credited units, the remaining duration and tuition fees. Check how these appear on the CoE. A shorter course may affect the visa period, but “one year less study means exactly one year less visa” oversimplifies the rules.
